Our pricing is shown above and includes both the XPlug A1 charger and a standard installation. If your installation requires any additional work, such as a longer cable run or electrical upgrades, we'll clearly explain any extra costs and confirm your fixed quote before installation is started.
Yes — a standard home EV charger installation is charged at the standard UK VAT rate of 20%. All our prices include VAT, so there are no surprises.

When you start your quote, we'll guide you through a few simple eligibility questions and let you know whether you qualify. The XPlug A1 uses the standard Type 2 connector fitted to most electric and plug-in hybrid cars sold in the UK, so it's compatible regardless of make or model.
Most UK homes have enough capacity for a 7.4kW charger without any upgrade. As part of your installation, our electrician checks your fuse and supply rating on-site and will let you know upfront if anything extra is needed.

Yes, both. The XPlug A1 is fully weatherproof and rated for outdoor use, so it can be mounted on an external wall or inside a garage — whichever suits your property best.
Yes — this is common for households with two EVs. We can install a second XPlug A1 alongside your first, and where needed, use load-balancing so both chargers share your home's available power safely.
The XPlug A1 charges at 7.4kW, the maximum speed most UK homes can support on a standard single-phase supply.
The XPlug A1 has a built-in cellular connection, so you can control your charger using the XPlug app without needing Wi-Fi. With 99.8% UK mobile network coverage, the vast majority of homes have a suitable signal.
No. The XPlug A1 includes a built-in cellular connection at no extra cost for the first 5 years, so you can use the app and smart charging features without needing Wi-Fi or a separate data plan. After the initial 5-year period, we hope to continue providing the service free of charge. However, if network costs change, there may be a small annual connectivity fee of up to £3 per year. We'll always let you know well in advance if this ever becomes necessary.
Yes, the XPlug app lets you start and stop charging remotely, schedule off-peak charging times, and track your energy usage and charging costs — all from your phone. Download it from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
Yes. The XPlug A1 works with all the main UK dual-rate and smart EV tariffs, including Octopus. Dual-rate tariffs (like Octopus Go) can be scheduled directly on the charger itself, while smart tariffs (like Intelligent Octopus) are managed through your vehicle's own app — either way, the XPlug A1 charges exactly when it should to catch the cheapest rates.
A tethered charger has the charging cable permanently attached, so you just plug straight into your car — no separate cable needed. An untethered charger has a socket instead, so you connect your own Type 2 cable.
Type 2 is the standard charging connector used by virtually every electric and plug-in hybrid car sold in the UK and Europe. The XPlug A1 uses a Type 2 connection.
A 7.4kW charger like the XPlug A1 draws around 32 amps on a single-phase supply. Our electrician checks this against your home's existing supply and fuse rating as part of every installation, to make sure it's safe and won't overload your circuit.
A standard installation covers a straightforward setup — typically a charger mounted close to your consumer unit or meter, with a cable run under 15 metres and no extra groundwork or electrical upgrades required. If your property needs anything beyond this (a longer cable run, trenching, or a supply upgrade), we'll flag it and quote for it separately during your survey.
Yes — by law, EV charger installations must be carried out by a qualified, certified electrician. All XPlug installations are completed by fully qualified electricians, so your installation is safe, compliant, and covered by warranty.
In most cases, no — installing a home EV charger is usually classed as permitted development. You may need permission if you live in a listed building, a conservation area, or want to install the charger somewhere unusual (like facing a highway).
In most cases, no. The XPlug A1 features built-in dynamic load balancing, which means most domestic installations can be completed without waiting for prior DNO approval. Where permitted, we'll install your charger first and then notify the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) on your behalf. This helps avoid unnecessary delays and makes the installation process as quick and straightforward as possible. If your property requires approval before installation, we'll manage the application for you and keep you informed throughout.
A standard XPlug A1 installation usually takes half a day to complete on-site, and we aim to install your charger within 14 days from purchase.
The XPlug A1 comes with a 3-year manufacturer's warranty, covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal domestic use. If the charger develops a manufacturing fault during the warranty period, we'll repair or replace it as appropriate at no cost to you.

The warranty does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, vandalism, unauthorised repairs or modifications, incorrect use, or events outside our control such as flooding, fire, lightning or other external damage. Normal cosmetic wear and tear is also excluded.
