Yes. The Xplug A1 uses the industry-standard Type 2 connector, making it compatible with all major electric vehicle brands currently sold in the UK, including Tesla, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Jaguar, and more.
Absolutely. The Xplug A1 works with all plug-in hybrid vehicles that use a Type 2 charging port, which covers the vast majority of PHEVs sold in the UK.
UK regulations require EV charging installations to be carried out safely and in accordance with BS 7671 and the Building Regulations. In practice, this means almost all installations are completed by a qualified, competent electrician who can inspect, test and certify the work.
No. The Xplug A1 includes built-in PEN fault protection, which eliminates the need for an earth rod in most standard UK domestic installations, reducing installation time and cost.
Yes. The Xplug A1 is IP55 rated for water and dust ingress, making it fully suitable for outdoor wall mounting in all typical UK weather conditions.
A standard installation typically takes between 2 and 3 hours. This may be longer if additional cabling runs or consumer unit upgrades are required.
Yes. The Xplug A1 is eligible for the government’s EV Chargepoint Grant, which increased from £350 to £500 per socket on 1 April 2026. This grant is only available to renters and flat owners with off-street parking — homeowners with their own driveway are no longer eligible, as that scheme closed in April 2022. Your installer must be OZEV-approved to claim it on your behalf.
PEN fault detection monitors the Protective Earth and Neutral conductor for faults. Built-in PEN protection removes the requirement for a separate earth rod during installation and provides an additional layer of electrical safety for your home.
DC leakage detection monitors for unintended direct current leakage in the charging circuit. Having this built into the charger means a lower-cost Type A RCD can be used at the consumer unit rather than the more expensive Type B RCD required without it.
Yes. The Xplug A1 carries an IP55 rating, providing protection against water jets from any direction and against dust ingress. It is designed and tested for outdoor installation in the UK climate.
Yes. The Xplug A1 includes built-in safety protections for overcurrent. If the charger detects an unsafe condition it will shut down safely to protect your vehicle and home electrical system.
The Xplug A1 uses built-in 4G cellular connectivity. Unlike WiFi-only chargers, the A1 does not rely on your home network, ensuring smart features remain active even if your broadband drops or if the charger is installed in a garage with poor WiFi signal.
No. The Xplug A1 includes cellular connectivity as part of the product with no additional SIM or subscription cost required.
Our network provider has stable signal across 98.9% of the UK, in rare circumstances where cellular signal is not available, the user can opt for connection via WiFi instead.
The Xplug A1 delivers up to 7.4kW on a standard single-phase 32A circuit. This adds approximately 25-30 miles of range per hour, meaning most EV batteries can be fully charged overnight.
The Xplug A1 offers Instant Mode (charges immediately at full power), Delay Mode (starts at a scheduled time you set, ideal for off-peak tariffs), and Smart Mode (automatically manages charging based on grid conditions and energy costs).
Yes. Using Delay Mode, you can schedule charging to begin at any time you choose, allowing you to take advantage of cheaper overnight electricity tariffs such as Octopus Go or EDF GoElectric.
No. Although the Xplug A1 works alongside a property with solar panels, in order to only charge on excess solar generated it would need a solar add on kit which is due to be launched at the end of this year.
Yes. All modern EVs communicate with the charger through the Type 2 connection. Once the vehicle battery management system signals it is full, the charging session ends automatically.
Yes. The Xplug A1 includes a built-in lock function so you can lock the charger using a PIN pattern, preventing energy theft.
If you forget your lock pattern, a factory reset will clear it. Please refer to the factory reset section of your user manual, or contact our support team who can walk you through the process.
Yes. Remote lock and unlock is available through the Xplug app, allowing you to start or stop charging from anywhere.
The Xplug A1 comes with a 3-year manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship when installed by a qualified installer.
The warranty covers manufacturing defects and hardware failures under normal use. It does not cover damage caused by improper installation, physical damage, or unauthorised modifications. Full terms are available in the warranty documentation supplied with the product.
Warranty registration can be completed through your Xplug account at xplug.co.uk after installation. Your installer should provide you with the serial number required for registration.

Orders placed before 2pm on a working day qualify for free next-day delivery. Orders placed after 2pm or on weekends will be dispatched the following working day.
Yes. Free next-day delivery is included on all Xplug A1 orders to UK mainland addresses.
Yes. You can return the charger within 30 days of delivery provided it is unused and in its original packaging. Chargers that have been installed cannot be returned. Please contact our support team to arrange a return.
