Safety is fundamental to EV charging infrastructure. The XPlug A1 incorporates integrated protection features designed to support modern electrical installation requirements, including built-in DC leakage detection and open PEN fault protection. These features simplify installation while helping installers meet current electrical regulations. The charger has been engineered in line with recognised EV charging standards to ensure safe operation, system protection, and compatibility with modern electric vehicles.

As EV charging becomes increasingly connected, intelligent control and monitoring play an important role in managing energy usage. The XPlug A1 supports smart connectivity, enabling remote monitoring, charging control, and system updates through connected platforms. This smart functionality allows installers, service providers, and users to manage charging sessions more efficiently while supporting future software updates and expanded smart charging capabilities.

What is the length of the Tethered Cable?
The tethered cable measures 7m (7.3m from the end of the charger to the end of the car connector).
What is the maximum charging power?

The charger supports up to 7.4 kW (32 A) single-phase AC charging. Charging power may be limited by the vehicle onboard charger or supply capacity.

What connector type is used?

The charger uses a Type 2 connector (IEC 62196-2), compatible with all modern European EVs and plug-in hybrids.

What electrical supply is required for the charger?

Our charger is designed for 230 V single-phase installations up to 32 A (7.4 kW). It must be installed on a dedicated circuit in accordance with BS 7671 Section 722.

Does the charger include PEN fault protection?

Yes. The charger includes integrated open PEN fault detection compliant with BS 7671:2018 + A2:2022, removing the requirement for a separate earth rod in most installations.

Does the charger require an external RCD?

Our charger includes 6 mA DC leakage detection as required by IEC 61851-1, as such Installers are able to use a Type A RCD upstream in the consumer unit to save installation costs.

Does the charger support smart connectivity?

Yes, our charger is fully smart with connectivity powered by Vodafone, no Wi-Fi is required allowing a simple plug and play installation and remote troubleshooting.

What standards and certifications does the charger comply with?

Our charger complies with: IEC 61851-1, BS 7671 Section 722, IEC 62196-2 and is CE / UKCA compliant.
